“A very fun interactive manual handling training session taking people a variety of techniques required for performing specific tasks at our plant. We have seen encouraging and consistent results. After year 1 - a 46% reduction in strain/sprain injuries. In year 2 – a further 22% reduction. 3-year mark another 19% reduction in strain/sprain injuries. I recommend the Provention First Move program to any business involved in manual handling.” - Safety Training Officer, Lorneville Plant
“We had a 64% reduction in strain/sprain injuries in the 2022 – this is assumed to be in direct response to First Move training within our production teams who are now equipped with the knowledge passed on by the Provention Team in Auckland and Christchurch.” - Darren Hartnett - Group Health & Safety Manager, NZ Panels
We are certainly noticing a difference in our ‘Strain’ type injuries.
This is supported by our YTD figures to 31 July 2018 showing a 75% reduction compared to the same time last year (to July 2017).
While we have had an overall reduction in both ‘Injury’ and ‘Incident’ reporting, the major improvement is in the Torso/Back category.
Thanks to the Provention team, your training is working well.
- Gerard Smith, SQE Manager
The feedback from First Move has been outstanding. We have had staff that regularly went home with a sore back/body that are seeing up to a 90% reduction in discomfort. Couldn't be happier with the result, especially now that we are in peak processing heading into Christmas. - Josh Rea, Warehouse Manager
“80% of our personal injuries arise from manual handling. We’ve had a lot of programmes over the years to address this problem but the one that has made the biggest difference is Provention with a 40% reduction in manual handling injuries.” - Carl Stent, National Safety and Wellbeing Manager
NIWA Vessels introduced First Move – Manual Handling between February and June 2017 and trained all of our workforce on the vessels. Not long after that our injury rate started to drop significantly, including strains and sprains which have also dropped 3 fold since the training. We have been working on other areas but the First Move programme has certainly had a major and immediate effect. - Ross Mitchell, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Manager
“We are focused on improving our reporting so even thou the number of incidents has not reduced around manual handling related strains and sprains, the seriousness has. We also had a reduced cost of $80,000 in strain/Sprain injury costs.” - Zero Harm Manager
The class was that much of a hit, after I confirmed it was occurring again, it was entirely booked within the hour
- Health & Safety Advisor
Feedback from attendees has been really positive, with many attendees commenting that they have never encountered such pragmatic and useable advice in any of the similar training sessions they have attended before. Our HR Manager was particularly impressed, and also several of our ‘tough crowd’ machine engineers raved about it. - Production Manager
I received some feedback from our Network Operations & Controller Centre Manager today, who let me know that his guys who attended your course got a lot out of it – they found the advice was really practical and gave them tips and tools that they could actually put into practice in their day to day jobs. They also learnt things that they never knew before (which is great because some of these guys have been taking manual handling training annually for years). - Kate Williamson, People and Culture
The session was absolutely brilliant. Everyone was actively involved and really enjoying themselves in the process. What we learnt was very applicable to our workplace and people learnt things about the human body they had not previously known. Highly rated and highly recommended. Katie, top effort by her was such a great person to learn off very knowledgeable in her field. 11/10!!! - Aaron Martin, H& S Manager
Prior to the training there had been 9 LTIs recorded in the previous 12 months, however in the 12 months following the Provention training programme there has been only one LTI, which was not related to manual handling.
The programme that Provention delivers is relevant, practical, highly interactive and enjoyable. The results speak for themselves. - Safety Quality and Environment Manager
We have a number of key business areas where staff was placed at a greater risk of injury because of the tasks they perform with lifting, overstretching or working in static or awkward positions. The “at risk groups” was targeted for an intense training and on the job support from Provention. Since the training nearly a year ago, there has been no recorded incidents of injury within the group targeted, in other words 100% reduction of sprains and strain injuries. - SEW Coach
“In July 2012 First Move Manual Handling was introduced to Gough. By May 2014 the TIFR had reduced by 69%. In large part, First Move shifted the goalposts on preventative solutions to muscular-skeletal injuries being experienced in the workplace.”
“We commenced manual handling training in May and we have just had our first month (June) in the past 12months that we have had no reported LTI's.”
“I have been involved in Manual Handling Training sessions for 15 years. The First Move Training is the most practical and relevant I have been involved with. The techniques are explained well and demonstrated in a way that allows trainers to correct learner techniques immediately in an easy and safe environment.” - Armaguard , First Move Trainer
“I just want to thank and commend the department for running the First Move Manual Handling training course. I think this is one of the most valuable courses I have ever done in my life, and wish I had learned it at primary school. Although I am office-based, this course will help in all areas of my life.” - Employee

“The training went very well, all the vineyard hands engaged and I believe they enjoyed the sessions. I thought the trainer did a fantastic job of engaging with all those who attended. Initially there were supposed to be only 6 who could attend the final session, however, it was so popular they all wanted to attend.” - Health and Safety Manager
“The production team and I learned a lot from you and we will be certainly putting into practice what you have told us. The most important thing about your visit was the immediate difference that all the staff felt about your instruction on how to use their bodies correctly when doing any manual handling activities.” - Linda Roughan
“Since your sessions in Christchurch, the start of shift meetings have had a massive improvement in the quality and duration of the warm-up exercises.” - Site Manager
Every single session has had positive feedback. Common themes are that the training is practical, easy to understand and something that they haven't thought about before.
I've been really impressed with how engaged every participant has been - I haven't seen anyone become fidgety or distracted. I think that speaks highly to your presentation skills
